William Henry Buck (Norwegian/Louisiana, 1840-1888) "English Country Dairy Scene" oil on canvas signed "Wm. H. Buck, after E. Williams, Sr." lower right. Period gilt frame with erroneously titled plaque of "Bayou Teche Dairy Scene". 29-1/2" x 42-1/2", framed 37-1/2" x 50-1/2" Provenance: A New Orleans estate. Notes: The accomplished late-19th-century landscape painter William Henry Buck was widely recognized for his views of Bayou Teche country and southern Louisiana. Buck also did a series of paintings that were copies after established English painters, including John Constable and Hugh Collins. In this charming painting, Buck looks to work of the English Williams family of landscape painters, and is mostly likely a copy after his contemporary Edward Charles Williams (1807 - 1881).
