**Evidence of several campaigns of past restoration. Canvas relined. Scattered craquelure, some abrading, most notably to the bottom of cardinal's robe and upper left edge. Scattered minor losses, mainly evident in cardinal's robe, leg of the piano and glove in the hand of the standing figure. Pinprick losses and abrasions in the background. Inpainting repairs throughout; the central scene mainly with inpainting fillers. Soiling, surface dirt, accretions. Figure in black with cupping to her forehead.
Frame with scattered nicks and abrasions.
