Suite of Six Continental Neoclassical Polychrome Chairs
Sold for $1,250
19th century, consisting of one armchair and five side chairs, each with a paneled lyre-carved crest supported by scrolling side rails joined by a turned splat, the cushioned caned seat raised on sabre legs, the whole with gilt accents.
**In good "as found" condition. All chairs exhibit rubbing and losses to the painted surfaces.
All are tight and sturdy with no movement noted in the legs, backs or rails.
Two of the caned seats are torn. One has a splinter along the part of the length of the rail that the cane threads through, just in front of the holes for the cane. The rail remains solid and firmly affixed to the legs.
Upholstered seat cushions exhibit no tears or rips, but they are somewhat soiled and worn.
