Pair of Rare Louis XV Giltwood Mirrors third quarter 18th century, the mirror-inset giltwood surrounds outlined with rocaille-trimmed scrollwork, ornamented with meandering vines, acorns and flowers, the arched crest with central pierced rocaille work framed by leaf-carved side finials, the lower edges with laurel scrolls on each side. h. 61", w. 35" Provenance: The Connoisseur, Inc., New York, New York; The Estate of Camille & Raymond Hankamer, Houston, Texas.
Estimate $3,000-5,000 **Both are in very good "as found" condition. The surfaces appear to be undisturbed. There are some scattered chips and flakes to some leaf tips and edges. There is a small section of a branch missing on the right side of one mirror. The mirror plates with imperfections and silvering loss, giving them a very pleasing overall patina. One has a cracked mirror at the top left.
