Pair of Italian Carved and Painted Wood and Tole Candelabra first quarter 19th century, now mounted as lamps, in the Baroque taste, the terracotta- and white-painted candelabra with vasiform standards ornamented with bold scrollwork, on pierced and scroll-carved bases, set with tole candle sockets with fluted drip pans. h. 37-1/2", w. 13-1/2", d. 7"
Estimate $1,200-1,800 **Both with scattered open shrinkage, surface losses, and small losses to carved elements all consistent with age. Bases exhibit scattered insect damage with losses along the lower edges. The reverse sides with an ochre wash, but not decorated. Cut tin candle sockets sit firmly in place. Fitted with European electrification. Neither standards nor candle sockets wobble.
