Napoleon III Mahogany Fall-Front Desk third quarter 19th century, constructed of well-figured veneers, with a fold-out top opening to reveal an inset tooled leather writing surface backed by niches and drawers, the lid with a mechanism to extend the work surface and release the drawer locks when opened, over a band of three drawers and double pedestal supports, each with a bank of three drawers and a plinth base, veneered and finished on all four sides. h. 33-1/4", w. 51-3/4", d. 25-3/4"
Estimate $1,000-1,500 In good overall condition. Minor old imperfections to the finish from age and use. There is a 5 inch section of trim molding missing along the left side of the case. The mechanical operation of the desk functions well. All of the drawers lock automatically when the lid is closed. Retains a good rich finish and patina.
