Notes: Helen Frankenthaler is one of the most influential second generation post WWII Abstract painters, and her work played a pivotal role in the transition from Abstract impressionism to Color field painting. Over her long career, which spanned six decades, she produced a diverse body of work, experimenting with paint, ceramics and textiles. She is most known for her "stain" painting technique, achieved by pouring thinned paint directly onto raw unprimed canvas.
Her influence on contemporary art is profound and can be seen even today in the works of the numerous emerging artists for whom color and employment of loose gestural drawing can be directly traced to Frankenthaler's paintings, prints and works on paper.

**Float-mounted with all edges visible (not inspected out of the frame); ragged edges inherent to paper. Some toning of the paper; some dark brown areas mid-left by edge and small dark brown dots mid-right; good, strong colors; surface imperfections upper center appear to be hand of the artist.
Modern metal frame with surface marks, discoloration, nicks and abrasions.
