Sale 2207 Lot 390

Georgian-Style Walnut Desk

20th century, the shaped, rectangular top inset with three gilt-tooled leather writing surfaces and within a molded edge, above a central drawer over a kneehole, flanked to either side by a bank of four short, graduated drawers, raised on acanthine-carved cabriole feet.
h. 30", w. 55", d. 27"

Provenance: The Estate of Betty T. Brooks, New Orleans, Louisiana.

Estimate $1,200-1,800

**Very heavy, solid and sturdy with no movement observed at its joints. Drawers open and close freely. No key present. The surface exhibits some scattered minor blemishes and wear consistent with use. The most notable issue is an area of lifted finish to a rail between sections of the leather on the top. Those areas are about 2" by 3"; 1-1/2" by 1" and 3/4" by 1-1/4". The tooled leather top is worn, with a loss at one corner. The back of the desk has finish on what looks like a sheet of secondary wood. The back is not veneered.

Sold for $1,250
