Exceptional Neoclassical Gilt-Bronze and Cobalt Glass Chandelier ca. 1790, German, in the manner of Georg Haller and made in Dresden or Berlin, the arcaded main "ring" set with scrolled candle arms alternating with sprays of drops, the center with a suspended cobalt plateau hung with more drops, suspended from a delicate corona set with a cobalt plateau and drops, accented with bronze and crystal mini cascades. h. 42", dia. 36" Provenance: Apter-Fredericks Ltd., London, England; Private collection.
Estimate $5,000-8,000 **In fine condition. There is a small surface flake to the lower circular blue glass panel. This flake is concealed by the cast bronze rosette on the underside. All of the prisms appear to be present. Recently wired for U.S. standard electricity. The wiring runs along the outside of the arms and along the inside of the lower bronze ring.
