American Painted Mantelpiece in the Classical Revival Taste

fourth quarter 19th century, with full fluted Corinthian columns supporting the dentillated mantel shelf, the frieze decorated with a bas-relief panel of frolicking putti flanked by panels of delicate scrollwork, the opening lined with carved acanthus leaves.

**In good "as found" condition, exhibiting normal shrinkage, minor past repairs, mars, abrasions and losses to the polychromy and gesso.

The joints appear to be tight and free of play.
