American Late Classical Mahogany Secretary Bookcase

second quarter 19th century, probably New England, in two parts, the upper section with a projecting cornice over a pair of glazed doors with reeded mullions and a bank of drawers below, the base with a fold-out tooled leather writing surface over a molded projecting drawer and a pair of drawers below, flanked by figured columns.

**In good "as found" condition. Older refinish with normal marks, shrinkage and wear. The base is tight and solid with no movement at its joints. The leather writing surface in near-new condition. Lock for doors detached. Small drawers at the base of top with a functioning key, other locks remain but do not include key. Scattered repairs including veneer repair to the upper base drawers, edges of lid replaced, lid hinged and a patch at one hinge. Loose molding at return framing top section.
