Carved and Painted Wood Figure of a Monkey

first quarter 20th century, possibly Venetian, dressed in a blue smock and giltwood kerchief, sitting contemplatively, poised on a rocky outcropping, raised on a carved wood base with a molded surround.
h. 25-3/4", w. 10-3/4", d. 11-1/4"

Estimate $600-900

**Structurally sound. Appears to be pine, gessoed and polychromed with an aged look. The figure possibly held a cane or staff, judging from the position of the hands. Small shrinkages and scattered, tiny nicks and chips as expected with age and use. Base is faux marble painted.
