Louis XVI-Style Giltwood and Marble-Top Center Table 19th century, the rectangular marble top with projecting corners and center sections, above a conforming annulated guilloche-carved frieze, centered on each side by a floral patera with pendant laurel garlands, and raised on shaped legs headed by scroll and foliate carving, joined by a shaped tri-dolphin carving and ending in scrolled foliate toes. h. 38", w. 60", d. 35" Provenance: Estate of Sylvia Pugh Sullivan, Houston, Texas.
Estimate $3,000-5,000 **In very good original condition, exhibiting rubbing, losses and wear to the gilt and gesso consistent with age and use. There appears to be scattered minor touch-up to the gilding, but the surface appears largely original. The table is sturdy and functional. Legs and stretchers are tight. One swag is slightly loose. There are metal braces on the back securing the swags which appear to be old, later additions. The molding just beneath the top may be replaced on one side. Marble top appears original or of the period. It has some minor discoloration and normal small chips and flakes to the perimeter edges.
