American Late Classical Mahogany Four-Post Bed

second quarter 19th century, with turned and acanthus-carved foot posts and smooth, turned head posts, the shaped headboard with a central urn-form finial.
h. 95", inside w. 54-1/2", l. 61-1/2", outside w. 77", l. 80-1/2"

**In overall very good condition. The surface, which appears to be an old or original finish that has been French polished, now exhibiting a few scattered mars and with normal wear and dings beneath the finish.

The bolt covers are missing from the rails.

The foot end of the tester frame exhibits a repair/splice of newer wood at one of its corners.

There is a loss to the molding on the lower edge of the tester, about 5" long.

The bed inside the rails is 54-1/2" wide and 62-1/2" long. The length to the end of the notch for the pegs is 77-1/2" and 60-1/2" in width to the outside of the side rails. A mattress could be placed over the rails. Other dimension as in the catalogue description.
